How the controlled parking scheme works

The city charges for street parking through a scheme called THESi. It covers much of the centre, from the Macedonia Palace down to the port and north as far as Agios Pavlos, and every street inside it carries the sign. Blue-lined spaces belong to residents holding a card, while white-lined spaces are for visitors and are billed by the minute through the ParkPal app, a Scan & Pay code or a point of sale. A visitor may hold a white space for four hours at most in one sector, so it will never take a car overnight.

Where to leave the car near Ladadika

The port itself runs three open-air car parks on the edge of the quarter, open to anyone and running around the clock. Together they hold 834 spaces. We work with a covered garage, Grand Parking, 250 metres from our entrance, open around the clock and charged separately from the stay. Send us the day and hour you expect to arrive and the space is held and the directions sent before you set off.

  • Passenger terminal park. 245 spaces, entered from Axios street, 50 metres from the port's main gate
  • Gate 6 park. 433 spaces, entrance on Kountouriotou
  • Gate 7 park. 156 spaces, inside the port land zone

When a hire car earns its keep

A car pays for itself on the days you leave the city. Vergina, Pella, the Halkidiki beaches and Mount Olympus all sit within a morning's drive, and one day's hire covers any of them. We do not hire out cars ourselves. Collect it in the morning, put it back that evening, and you are on foot in Ladadika again for dinner.

Before you hire: the licence and the terms

An EU licence is valid across the EU. If yours was issued outside the EU, check what Greece requires before you travel. The EU's own advice is to ask the authorities of the country you are visiting. Tell the company at booking if you plan to cross a border, so the documents and the cover come with the car. Car hire sits outside the EU's fourteen-day right of withdrawal, so read the terms before you sign them.
