Everything you need to know about visiting Thessaloniki during the International Fair (TIF / ΔΕΘ): dates, the city in September, where to eat, and why booking early in the centre matters.

What is TIF and when does it take place

The Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF, known locally as ΔΕΘ — Διεθνής Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης) is Greece's largest trade and economic event: every September it brings together business delegations, parallel specialist exhibitions, and the Prime Minister's keynote policy address. For the duration, the city runs at full capacity — restaurants, conference halls, and hotels fill up fast. If you are visiting for business or want to experience the atmosphere, book your stay early.

What to see and where to eat during TIF

Beyond the Vellidio fairgrounds themselves, September is when Thessaloniki is at its best. The OTE Tower (Skyline) — on Angelaki Street, minutes from the venue — opens to visitors with a panoramic view of the Thermaic Gulf and Mount Olympus. For dining, Ladadika comes alive: tavernas and meze houses two minutes from the suite are ideal for an evening meal after a day at the fair. The city food guide and the cafés-and-sweets guide cover the curated set in full.

Your base — walking distance from the fair

Loena is on Ernou Empraar 13, inside Ladadika — roughly a 20-minute walk or an 8-minute taxi ride from the main TIF entrance. Availability across the city tightens quickly during TIF week; rates rise with demand, but a direct booking always guarantees the lowest available rate.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Thessaloniki International Fair each year?

TIF takes place every year in the first two weeks of September — typically a ten-day period from early to mid-month. Exact dates are announced by the organiser, ΔΕΘ-Helexpo.

Where should I stay during TIF in Thessaloniki?

Centrally — in Ladadika or close to Nikis Avenue. The fairgrounds are a short taxi ride away, and the city is entirely walkable for everything else. Book early: accommodation fills up fast during TIF week.

Do I need a car for TIF?

Not necessarily. The Vellidio Congress Centre is accessible by taxi, bus, or a short walk from the centre. If you are arriving by car, Loena works with a nearby parking facility.
